Elitebook 820 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I used my laptop to download drivers for a Elitebook 820 G3. After I started SP142400 there was no program that started but insted some chript. After that the WWAN card on my laptop changed from VID_03F0&PID_521D&MI_02

to two new ones USB\VID_03F0&PID_8E1D&MI_00 and 01 and my WWAN card stop working and only show two COM ports.

How do I get it back and please HP if ship drivers as exe please let me chose if to install or just extract.

Also the cards name is HS3110 Huawei MU736.

Regards Henrik.

Hello @HenrikEln,

Welcome to HP Support Community. Thank you for reaching out to us!

What actually happened:

SP142400 did not “just extract”

That SoftPaq contains firmware + driver components.

When you ran it, it sent the WWAN card into firmware download / diagnostic mode.

In that mode, the card:

Stops presenting itself as a network adapter

Appears only as two USB serial (COM) ports

Changes USB IDs from

VID_03F0&PID_521D&MI_02

VID_03F0&PID_8E1D&MI_00 and MI_01

This is expected behavior during a failed or incomplete firmware initialization.

Your WWAN card is not bricked.

How to recover the WWAN card (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Remove the broken devices

Open Device Manager

Enable View → Show hidden devices

Expand:

Ports (COM & LPT)

Universal Serial Bus devices

Network adapters

Uninstall all of the following (check Delete the driver software if offered):

USB Serial Device (COMx)

Huawei Mobile Connect / Diagnostic / Modem

Any WWAN / MBIM / HP Mobile Broadband entries

Reboot

Step 2: Install the correct WWAN SoftPaq (clean)

For EliteBook 820 G3 + HS3110 (Huawei MU736) you must use:

HP WWAN Driver + Firmware specifically for 820 G3

Not a generic Huawei package

Not a different EliteBook generation

After reboot:

Run the correct HP SoftPaq as Administrator

Do not interrupt

Wait until it finishes and prompts for reboot

Reboot again

👉 After a successful install, Device Manager should show:

Network adapters → HP hs3110 HSPA+ Mobile Broadband

No extra COM ports (or fewer)

Step 3: If it still shows only COM ports

This means the card is stuck in firmware mode.

Do this:

Shut down the laptop

Remove:

AC power

Hold Power button for 20 seconds

Boot back into Windows

Re-run the correct SoftPaq

This often forces the module to re-enumerate properly.
