Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Have only had this Victus for about a week. It has a numeric keypad, which I specifically wanted.  Home (7), Pg Up (9), End (1) and Pg Dn (3) are on the keypad (along with arrows on 2, 4, 6,8).  Incidentally Num Lock does not have an indicator light to show whether it's engaged or not, which is mainly a problem because of how this kb is set up.

The only way to get Home (7), Pg Up (9), End (1) and Pg Dn (3) to work is with Num Lock OFF.  There is no option for Home etc. with Num Lock engaged.  This is a major issue since I keep Num Lock on routinely and also use the Home/End keys a lot in my work. Having to disengage Num Lock to use Home etc. to get around in a document (and then re-engage it so it works as a keypad again instead of moving the cursor around) is disruptive.

I wondered if this configuration choice was because this is a gaming laptop (not why I bought it).

I've never had to mess around with keyboard coding, anyone have any ideas? I was thinking I could probably get used to holding down the Fn key to use the directional keys when Num Lock is engaged, if I could force that somehow.

Hi @charwoman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing issues with the Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys not working when the Num Lock key is enabled on your HP Victus 15-fa0012tg laptop, there are a few things you can try.

  • Try disabling the Num Lock key: Press the Num Lock key to disable it, and then try using the Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys. If they work with Num Lock disabled, this may be a simple workaround for your issue.
  • Update your keyboard drivers: Go to the HP website and check if there are any available updates for your keyboard drivers. Download and install any updates that are available, and then restart your computer to see if the issue is resolved.
  • Use the On-Screen Keyboard: If the above solutions don't work, you can try using the On-Screen Keyboard to access the Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys. To access the On-Screen Keyboard, press the Windows key + R, type "osk" and press Enter. Then use your mouse or touchpad to click on the Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys on the virtual keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply, but obviously I have already been disabling num lock to use those keys and then turning them back on. Again, the fact that the Num Lock key does not have an indicator light (like the Caps Lock indicator) makes this challenging. The fact that none of your workaround suggestions take into account *how incredibly disruptive they all are* is not getting my day off to a great start here. Especially since this new laptop is already having display freakouts that escalated to the point of making it unusable this morning.  And especially since I realized that this unit's model number, which I could not find specific documentation for on your website until after I registered it (when I discovered the warranty had already been registered months ago, which has now been corrected), does not like all the other reviews I read for Victus 5s have an extra drive slot nor a max RAM capacity of 32gb which was the main reason I bought it.  I wanted something sturdy I could upgrade myself to make it futureproof.  The nicest thing I can say about this laptop is that it does seem physically sturdy.

I've never taken my frustrations out on computer equipment before but if it hadn't cost me just under 1K$ I'd back my car over it repeatedly. I already had to return a Pavilion that could barely cope with light browsing and was coming apart at the seams practically out of the box. I'm not looking forward to having to do this all over again just to get a decent laptop.

When I posted here I was hoping to configure the keyboard so that, with the Num Lock engaged, I could still use the H/E/Pu/Pd nav keys while holding down the Fn key. That doesn't seem like a big ask or an unreasonable thing to want. To be able to use the numeric keypad as a numeric keypad and also have the ability to use frequently-necessary navigation keys.

Come on.
