With Power Saver On
Power Saver Off
Hey everyone,
I recently bought a brand-new Victus laptop, and I’ve been having some annoying problems with battery life and power management. I’m hoping someone here can help me figure this out.
Here’s what’s going on:
Inconsistent Battery Life Estimates – The box advertised 11 hours of battery life for web browsing, but I’m nowhere near that. I’ve tried using Battery Saver Mode, but sometimes the estimated battery life is lower with it on than off. The estimates fluctuate constantly, and I can’t trust how long the battery will last.
Power Plans Keep Deleting Themselves – The Power Plan settings in Control Panel won’t stay intact. After every reboot, only the Balanced profile remains, which I can’t delete. I’ve tried restoring the Power Saver and High Performance plans, but they vanish after restarting. This limits my ability to optimize for better battery or performance.
ECO Mode Enabled in Omen Gaming Hub – I have ECO Mode turned on, hoping it would improve battery life, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. The battery estimates are still inconsistent, and I don’t know if the problem is related to this setting or something else.
Could this be a software issue? Is there anything I’m missing or something else I can try? Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Hi @Cdrkeen,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating combination of battery life inconsistencies and issues with power management settings on your brand-new HP Victus 15. Let's break down each issue and suggest some possible solutions.
Inconsistent Battery Life Estimates
Battery life estimates fluctuate based on current usage and background processes, so seeing variations isn't uncommon. However, if the estimates in Battery Saver mode are lower than when it's off, this suggests that the system's power management might not be functioning correctly.
Possible Solutions:
Update BIOS and Drivers: Sometimes, battery-related bugs can be fixed by updating to the latest BIOS version or installing updated power management drivers.
- Check HP Support Assistant or the HP website to ensure all system drivers, including the chipset and power management drivers, are up to date.
Calibrate the Battery: The battery's internal controller may not be accurately assessing charge and discharge cycles. Running through a full discharge and recharge cycle could help recalibrate it.
- Fully charge the battery, then let the laptop discharge completely. Afterward, charge it back to 100% without interruptions.
Disable Fast Startup: Windows Fast Startup can cause problems with power management. Try disabling it:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
Power Plans Keep Deleting Themselves
If your custom power plans keep disappearing, there could be a problem with how Windows handles power configurations, or it may be resetting on boot.
Possible Solutions:
- Create Power Plan via Command Prompt: Sometimes, creating or restoring power plans through the control panel doesn't persist. Instead, use Command Prompt:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type:
powercfg -duplicatescheme a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a
- This command will restore the Power Saver plan.
- For High Performance, run:
powercfg -duplicatescheme 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c
- Disable Eco Mode in Omen Gaming Hub: While ECO Mode is intended to improve battery life, it's possible that it conflicts with Windows' power management settings, causing plans to reset. Try disabling it and observe if this resolves the issue.

ECO Mode in Omen Gaming Hub
ECO Mode can influence power-saving mechanisms, but if it doesn’t seem to have a positive effect, and battery life is still inconsistent, it may be worth disabling it for the time being. Omen Gaming Hub might also interfere with power plans and cause them to reset.
Steps to Disable:
- Open Omen Gaming Hub and toggle off ECO Mode under Power Options.
- Restart the laptop and see if the power plans stabilize and the battery life improves.
Additional Suggestions:
Run HP Diagnostics: Run an HP battery check using HP Support Assistant or the built-in diagnostics (press F2 at startup) to see if it detects any battery-related issues.
Background Processes: Check for apps running in the background that could be draining your battery unexpectedly. Use Task Manager to identify high resource-consuming processes and disable unnecessary startup programs.
Windows Power Settings Reset: If the power plans still keep disappearing, you could reset the entire power settings configuration:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type:
powercfg –restoredefaultschemes
- This will reset all power plans to their default values.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I've already tried a lot of steps, but the battery is still draining way too quickly. Here are all the things I've done:
Power Settings Optimized: I have the laptop set to the "Best power efficiency" mode in Windows 11 power settings.
Omen Gaming Hub: I've switched the Omen Gaming Hub to "ECO" mode to reduce power consumption.
AMD Control Panel: In AMD settings, I have it on "Battery Saver" mode.
Background Apps Checked: I made sure no unnecessary background apps are running, and I've disabled startup apps that I don't need.
Screen Refresh Rate: Lowered the display refresh rate to 60Hz to save some extra battery.
Edge Settings: I use Microsoft Edge for browsing, and I enabled the "Efficiency Mode" feature to lower resource use.
Hardware Acceleration: Turned off hardware acceleration in Edge to reduce power draw.
Hibernate Over Sleep: I switched from Sleep mode to Hibernate overnight to avoid battery drain.
Disabled Wake Timers: Disabled wake timers so the laptop isn't waking up for random tasks while in Hibernate.
Wi-Fi Connectivity in Sleep: Adjusted the settings so the laptop doesn't stay connected to Wi-Fi during sleep/hibernate.
Uninstalled Omen Gaming Hub: I tried uninstalling the Omen Gaming Hub, but it didn't seem to fix the issue.
Reinstalled Windows: I reinstalled Windows, but the same battery drain issue persisted.
Disabled Modern Sleep: I disabled Modern Sleep using the Registry, which seems to help, but it removed the Sleep option from the Start Menu > Power Button.
Testing Identical Laptop: I bought an identical laptop from Walmart today, and I will test it when I get home from work to see if this one is better.
Despite all of these efforts, I'm still seeing major battery drain. For example, from 4 AM to 6 AM, while I was doing research for my speech with only Microsoft Edge open, the battery dropped from 100% to just 25%. I don't understand why it's draining so fast.
I ran a battery report (powercfg /batteryreport), and the results show a significant drop between 4 AM and 6 AM. I haven't noticed any extreme battery degradation so far, but this rapid drain is really worrying.
I spoke with someone from HP last night on the phone, and showed them everything I've tried so far. They also tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps, but we couldn't resolve the issue. I think the battery might just be bad, especially since it was completely dead when I first bought the laptop.

Ok so now my posts are showing up now.
I just bought a new Laptop I'm going to compare results with the new one and the old one, I'm going to compare the results of battery life with the same settings and see if it's just this machine. If so, I'll just going to return this one and keep the new one.
