Greetings,
Norton AntiVirus has found a virus in mictray64.exe, which is found in these locations:
c:\swsetup\sp78853\audio\x86\mictray.cab
c:\swsetup\sp77730\audio\x64\mictray.cab
c:\windows\uci\rollback\oem72.inf\mictray.cab
A Security Bulletin says that the fix is sp80327. Will this show up automatically in the Support Assistant, or do I have to download it manually?
Thanks,
Shane.

Hi @Shanester,
I reviewed the super quick response. You've done great and displayed brilliant troubleshooting competence, immaculate patience and a terrific temperament to try and resolve the issue. Kudos to you for a job well done. Yes, the softpaq should be installed directly from the HP support site and that should take care of the issue.
If that does not work, then go the HP support assistant route.

Hi @Shanester,
Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I read the post regarding assistance with Virus issues on the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂
Superb description and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did Norton internet security quarantine the virus?
For now, let me keep you posted about a few things.
- Please don’t save any data from the computer as the Virus also could be saved.
- This Trojan or malware could be harmful and compromise the safety, privacy and security of the computer leaking confidential or secure information to unscrupulous people who could use it for personal gain.
- I am being honest about it without beating around the bush by keeping your best interest in mind and am not trying to scare you.
- It could install malicious code and that may compromise credit card and banking information.
So keeping all this in mind the best course of action will be to perform a complete system recovery to factory settings by ordering the recovery media from HP phone support.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty
- Then please follow this guided troubleshooter link: http://hp.care/2vgODMG to perform a system recovery to original factory settings.
- This will do the trick for you.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂
Cheers!

It was a single virus found in multiple locations. I quarantined it.
The virus is a keylogger installed by HP. The Security Bulletin calls it "a local debugging capability that was not disabled prior to product launch". When a security company went public about it, HP issued a fix (SoftPaq 80327).
I was wondering if the fix will show up in Support Assistant, or if I have to download it manually.
Thanks,
Shane.
