Hi @karen123451,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect your HP DeskJet 2820e all-in-one printer to your HP Stream 14s laptop running Windows 11 S, and to resolve the “driver unavailable” issue, follow these steps:

1. Understand Windows 11 S Mode

Windows 11 S mode restricts installations to apps from the Microsoft Store and requires a specific driver setup. Ensure you have access to the correct driver for your printer.

2. Download the Correct Driver

Visit HP’s Support Website:

  • Go to the HP Support website.

Search for Your Printer:

  • Enter HP DeskJet 2820e into the search bar and select your printer model.

Download the Driver:

  • On the support page for your printer, look for the Drivers & Downloads section.
  • Choose Windows 11 (or Windows 10 as it may also be compatible) as your operating system.
  • Download the latest driver available. HP typically provides a full-featured driver for Windows 10/11 that should work in S mode.

Driver Type:

  • Download the driver in a format compatible with Windows 11 S, usually a .exe file.

3. Install the Driver

Open the Downloaded File:

  • Locate the downloaded driver file on your laptop (usually in the Downloads folder).
  • Double-click the .exe file to start the installation.

Follow Installation Instructions:

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation. The installation process should guide you through connecting your printer.

4. Add the Printer

Open Printer Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.

Add Printer:

  • Click on Add a printer or scanner.
  • Windows should detect your HP DeskJet 2820e if the driver installation was successful. Follow the prompts to add the printer.

Check Printer Status:

  • Once added, ensure the printer is set as the default printer if desired and check its status to ensure it’s online.

5. Troubleshoot Installation Issues

If you still encounter issues:

Check Windows Update:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and ensure your system is fully updated.

Check for Printer Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the driver you downloaded is compatible with Windows 11 S.

Switch Out of S Mode:

  • If you continue to have issues and need to install drivers or software that are not available from the Microsoft Store, you might consider switching out of S mode:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
    • Under Switch to Windows 11 Pro, select Go to the Store and follow the instructions to switch out of S mode. Be aware that this action is irreversible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
