“I bought a brand-new HP laptop, and after just 3 months of use the keyboard stopped working. I submitted it to customer care under warranty, but it has been over a month now and I still haven’t received any update. They can’t even say when I will get my laptop back. For such a big and expensive brand, this kind of poor service is extremely disappointing. I never expected this from HP.”

@Minul, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Sorry to hear about your experience! I can understand how frustrating it must be to deal with this issue, especially after such a short time with a new laptop. While you wait for your warranty repair to get sorted, here are some general troubleshooting steps you can try to see if you can fix the keyboard issue yourself:

Restart Your Laptop

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor software glitches that might be causing the keyboard to malfunction.

Check for Physical Blockages

Make sure there’s no dirt, dust, or debris stuck under the keys. You can use compressed air to gently blow out any particles.

Update Drivers

Step 1: Open Device Manager (press Windows + X and select Device Manager).

Step 2: Expand the “Keyboards” section, then right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.

Step 3: Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

Uninstall and Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

Step 1: In Device Manager, right-click on your keyboard device and choose Uninstall device.

Step 2: Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the necessary drivers.

Check Keyboard Settings

Step 1: Go to SettingsEase of AccessKeyboard.

Step 2: Make sure the Filter Keys option is turned off. This feature can cause the keyboard to behave abnormally.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Step 1: Turn off your laptop.

Step 2: Turn it on and immediately press Esc or F2 (depending on your model) to access HP Diagnostics.

Step 3: Choose Component TestKeyboard Test to run a quick check of your keyboard.

Check for Software Conflicts

Sometimes, third-party software can conflict with keyboard functionality. If you’ve recently installed any new programs or updates, try uninstalling them temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.

External Keyboard Test

Plug in an external USB keyboard and check if it works. If it does, the issue may be with the internal keyboard hardware.

I hope this helps.
