What is the meaning of red circles with white x on several of my files? How do I fix them?

This is something for which you need to find more information - without any context the question is not something we can answer without just guessing.

For example, my first guess:  These are cloud files and the files are not correctly synced between your cloud storage service and your computer.  Could be right - could be completely "off base" (wrong).

Open your browser and search for help on the subject.

For example, you could start with a search phrase

files marked with red circle and x

If you know, for example, that the files that are in trouble are in your Dropbox, add that to the search:

Dropbox files marked with red circle

This doesn’t solve my problem but helps me know where to start looking. Thanks.
