HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv1000 (464V0AV)

When "\" key is pressed, it will activate "Right Control" Key instead. Any ideas how to map the key back correctly?

Hi @iq180i,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If pressing the "\" key on your HP Pavilion laptop activates the "Right Control" key instead, it may be due to a keyboard mapping or driver issue. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this problem:

Restart your computer: Sometimes, simple issues can be resolved by restarting your laptop. Give it a try to see if the problem persists after a reboot.

Check the Keyboard Language and Input Settings:

  • Go to the Control Panel (you can search for it in the Start menu).
  • Click on "Clock, Language, and Region" or "Language."
  • Make sure your keyboard input language is set correctly. If it's incorrect, change it to the appropriate language.

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • Visit the HP support website for your specific laptop model.
  • Search for the latest keyboard or chipset drivers for your laptop.
  • Download and install any available updates.

Check for Keyboard Settings:

  • Right-click on the Windows Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on your keyboard, and select "Properties."
  • In the Properties window, go to the "Driver" tab and click "Update Driver." Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.

Check for Keyboard Mapping Software:

  • Some third-party keyboard mapping software may cause unexpected key behavior. Check if you have any such software installed and configure it correctly or uninstall it to see if the issue is resolved.

Use the On-Screen Keyboard:

  • Press the "Win" key and type "On-Screen Keyboard" to open it.
  • Check if the issue occurs when using the on-screen keyboard. If not, it may be a hardware issue with your physical keyboard.

Test in Safe Mode:

  • Restart your computer in Safe Mode and check if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is caused by third-party software.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect your physical keyboard for any physical damage or debris that might be causing a key to be stuck or malfunction.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with the "" key activating the "Right Control" key on your HP Pavilion laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
