@Nat174,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

That would be from here: HP Notebook - 15s-du1016tu Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support (go to "Windows 11 version 22H2 (64-bit)", with the most recent BIOS version being F.68 Rev.A (November 1, 2024).

Hi,

I have updated the drivers, but the desktop screen is still not working. Would you be able to provide assistance?

Thank you,

Tash

@Nat174,

OK, since the drivers are now up to date, the next step is to determine whether this is a display configuration issue, a graphics driver problem, or a hardware fault.

Please try the following, in order:

1. Check if Windows is actually loading

  • Press Win + Ctrl + Shift + B (this forces a graphics driver reset).

  • If you hear a beep or see the screen briefly flash, the GPU is responding.

2. Test with an external monitor

  • Connect the laptop to an external display (HDMI).

  • If the external monitor works but the laptop screen does not, this strongly suggests a failed internal display panel or display cable.

3. Boot into BIOS

  • Power off the laptop.

  • Power it on and immediately tap F10 repeatedly.

  • If the BIOS screen displays correctly, Windows is loading but the graphics driver or Windows display configuration is corrupted.

  • If the BIOS does not display, this points to a hardware display issue.

4. Run HP diagnostics

  • Power off the laptop.

  • Power it on and tap F2 repeatedly.

  • Run the Video / Display test.

Please report:

  • Whether the external monitor works

  • Whether you can see the BIOS screen

  • The results of the HP diagnostics

With that information, I can determine whether this is a software issue or a failing display component.

Kind Regards,

@Nat174,

OK, the issue was, quote: "but the desktop screen is still not working".

The picture you posted suggests that your desktop screen is now, in fact, working?

If it is, don't worry about the hardware diagnostics not being 'up to date'.

Hi.

No, the desktop screen is not working. When I plug in USB the laptop screen registers that it does try to register the desktop by the laptop display moving in and out.

when I go to display settings the laptop shows its own screen NO 1 however, 2ND screen (desktop) it cant pick up.

Do you think there could be something wrong with the cord or screen?

@Nat174,

Given that you installed the latest graphics drivers and the laptop display is working normally, this no longer points to a software problem.

Key observations from your description:

  • When you connect the external display, am I to understand that the laptop screen briefly reacts (flicker / re-layout), if so, that would indicate that the graphics subsystem detects something is being connected.

  • However, no second display appears in Windows Display Settings, even when manually checking.

  • This strongly suggests a signal-path issue, not a GPU failure.

Most likely causes (in order of probability):

  1. Faulty video cable or adapter

    • HDMI/DisplayPort cables and especially USB-C → HDMI adapters are common failure points.

  2. Incorrect or failed monitor input selection

    • Ensure the monitor is explicitly set to the correct input (HDMI, DP, etc.).

  3. External monitor issue

    • Test the monitor with another computer or device to rule this out.

  4. Physical damage or wear to the laptop’s video-out port

    • Less common, but possible if the port is loose or has been stressed.

Recommended quick tests:

  • Try a different known-good cable (no adapters if possible).

  • If using an adapter, test with another adapter or direct HDMI.

  • Test the monitor on another system.

  • Try Windows + P → Duplicate / Extend to force detection.

  • Power off laptop and monitor completely, reconnect, then boot.

Important note for your laptop model:

The HP 15s-du1016tu uses Intel integrated graphics, which is fully capable of driving an external display. If drivers are current, hardware in the connection chain is the primary suspect.

If none of the above resolves it, the next step would be inspecting the laptop's HDMI port itself, as motherboard-level failure is rare but then again, is also possible.

Kind Regards,
