Where do I customize my MPP2.0 Pen? Since the HP Pen app is gone, where do I customize my buttons? Not more to say. Thanks.

@hejaöis, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Customizing Your HP MPP2.0 Pen!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are looking to customize your HP Wireless Rechargeable MPP2.0 Tilt Pen, you can generally do so through the settings available in your device's operating system, particularly if you are using Windows:

Pen Settings in Windows: You can adjust pen settings directly in Windows. This includes configuring button shortcuts and other pen functionalities.

Windows 10:

  • Search for "Pen settings" in the taskbar search box.
  • Open the Pen area to configure settings like visual effects, using the pen as a mouse, and ignoring touch input when using the pen.

Windows 11:

  • Your pen menu allows you to add shortcuts and customize button behaviors.
  • Access the pen menu directly from the taskbar and explore settings such as adding or removing app shortcuts.

Using the Pen with Windows Ink Workspace:

  • In Windows 10, you can access additional functionalities like writing and drawing through Windows Ink Workspace.
  • You can also use features like Sketchpad for creative tasks.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I use Windows 11, where can I customize button behaviors? Only Windows Ink is supported...

Hi @hejaöis,

Thank you for your response

The HP Pen app, which used to offer this functionality, is no longer available. Here's how you can customize the pen button behavior in Windows 11:

Open Settings:

Click the Start menu and then the gear icon to open Settings, or press Windows + I.

Go to Pen Settings:

In Settings, click on Bluetooth & devices and then Pen & Windows Ink.

Customize the Pen Buttons:

In the Pen settings, you'll see options to change what each button on your pen does (e.g., Click, Right Click, Press and Hold). You can set them to actions like Erase, Right Click, or Launch an app.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Since there is no way to connect the pen in the sense you need to customise the pen you can’t access the actual customisation part. I fully aware that there is settings for pens in Windows but since the settings can’t sense the pen is connected you can’t reach the customisation settings…

Thanks for replying.

My apologies for the delayed response.

I hear your frustration clearly—it feels like the pen is right there in your hand, but Windows 11 isn’t giving you the doorway to actually customize its buttons. You’re correct: the old HP Pen Control app is gone, and Windows’ built‑in “Pen & Windows Ink” settings only expose customization if the system recognizes the pen as a connected device with button support.

Here’s the practical breakdown:

Connection Check

  • Make sure the MPP2.0 Pen is paired via Bluetooth if it has Bluetooth functionality (some models only use active stylus protocols and don’t need pairing).
  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices. If the pen doesn’t appear, Windows won’t expose button customization.

Windows 11 Pen Menu

  • Once the pen is recognized, Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Pen & Windows Ink will show options.
  • You can assign actions to the barrel button (like right‑click, erase, or launch an app).
  • If the pen isn’t detected, these options remain hidden.

Driver/Component Updates

  • Install the latest firmware and drivers for your laptop’s touchscreen/digitizer. These are often listed under “Firmware” or “Input Device” in HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Updated digitizer drivers can improve recognition of advanced pen features.

Limitations of MPP2.0

  • Some MPP2.0 pens only expose basic input (writing, tapping) without customizable buttons. In those cases, Windows Ink will support drawing and writing, but button reassignment isn’t possible because the hardware doesn’t advertise those functions.

Alternative Customization

  • If Windows doesn’t expose button settings, you can still use third‑party utilities like AutoHotkey to remap input events triggered by the pen’s button. This is more advanced but can give you control over shortcuts.

So the key is: if Windows doesn’t “see” the pen as connected with button support, the customization menu won’t appear. That’s why you’re hitting a wall.
