HP Pavilion dv6500
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am looking forward to upgrade my dv6500 from the core 2 duo T5250 1.5 GHz to the core 2 duo T9300 2.5 GHz . I want to know whether I will have to update my Bios for I don't know whether the currently installed Bios (version F.22) will recognise that chip . Also after the CPU upgrade from FSB 667 MHz to FSB 800 MHz will my motherboard support DDR2 800 MHz memory ? Also can you provide me with the official link to download the latest version of BIOS for my laptop because I couldn't find it anywhere on the net .

My laptop's current specifications :

Chipset : Intel GM965 Express Chipset

Ram : DDR2 (2x1GB) 667 MHz

BIOS : Version F.22

OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Hi:

Yes, you will need to update the BIOS to go to the T9300 or T9500 processor.

I believe that F.45 was the one that added support for the T8100, T9300 and T9500 processors.

Here is the link to the final BIOS release for dv6500's with the Intel processors...

WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (for Notebooks with Intel Processors)

F.5A Apr 5, 2010
This package contains the WinFlash utility and a System BIOS image for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The WinFlash utility is used to locally flash the System BIOS (ROM) on notebooks operating in a Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System environment.

Fix and enhancements:
- Fixes an issue where an "HP Battery Alert" message may be displayed after updating the operating system to a Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48024.exe

The Mobile Intel 965 chipset can only run the memory at 667 MHz.

So PC2-6400 memory will work, but only at 667 MHz.

Support for the dv6000 model series has been retired since it is more than 10 years old.

Most of the drivers are still on the FTP site but you have to use some very intensive detective work to find them.
