Hi @DESKTOP-FA4DSGD,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like there might be a misunderstanding or a typo in your question. It's not clear what you mean by "earther wire." If you meant "Ethernet wire," which is a wired connection, and your HP laptop is not connecting to Wi-Fi without using an Ethernet cable, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
Check Wi-Fi Settings:
- Make sure your Wi-Fi is turned on. Look for a Wi-Fi symbol in the system tray or settings on your laptop.
- Ensure that the correct Wi-Fi network is selected and that you have entered the correct Wi-Fi password.
Restart Your Laptop and Router:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart both your HP laptop and your Wi-Fi router.
Update Wi-Fi Drivers:
- Ensure that your Wi-Fi drivers are up to date. You can update them through the device manager or by visiting the HP support website.
Check for Airplane Mode:
- Make sure your laptop is not in Airplane mode, as this disables all wireless connections, including Wi-Fi.
Reset TCP/IP Stack:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- Forget the Wi-Fi network on your laptop and then reconnect by entering the password again.
Firewall/Antivirus Software:
- Disable any firewall or antivirus software temporarily to check if they are blocking the Wi-Fi connection.
Check Router Settings:
- Log in to your router settings and ensure that MAC address filtering or other security features are not preventing your laptop from connecting.
Try Another Wi-Fi Network:
- If possible, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network to determine if the issue is specific to your home network.
Check for Physical Hardware Issues:
- Ensure there are no physical issues with your laptop's wireless hardware. Some laptops have a physical switch or button to enable/disable Wi-Fi.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
