So, after Googling this problem it is apparently not uncommon for Windows 10. There was an easy work around which seemed to work for most but I get an error. Anybody else? I bought this over a year ago and HP customer support is HORRIBLE. Out of warranty with Office Depot but I need to use this for work now and that is impossible! I cannot even believe I'm having such a stupid problem.

Thank you.
Well, another thing I was extremely disappointed about is that the numbers are etched on bottom of laptop and are not readable - even with magnifying glass.
I spent weeks trying to find paperwork with numbers in order to get help and I found a label that lists several numbers but of course there is no indication of what these numbers may be (but at least I can see them).

I can't save any files to my laptop.
When I try to save a file it says I do not have permission. I change permissions and it does not stick. I've changed it maybe 20 times with the same result over and over. I Googled this problem and found that I am not the only one having this problem. What was supposed to be a simple fix did not work for me. How can I fix it?

I've already gone through security settings and all users have 'full control'. I'm now noticing that when I look at the Windows files - several are grayed out and nothing is there. "Documents and Settings" and hp folder and recovery folder - says "location not available - Access is denied. What is happening here?

Thanks for the response.
I see that you've already performed most of the steps.
In this case, I would suggest you to perform a complete recovery, which would take it back to the factory settings, Having said that, Please take a back up of the data before you try this.
Follow this link for instructions.
Keep me posted. 🙂

No, I didn't try all that.... I got an error when I tried and I cannot replicate that error now. Instead of me trying all sorts of methods from Google - I"m trying to get an expert's advice on what to do and I'd rather not try a complete recovery because I have a feeling my computer will then be completely unuseable. This is not a rare problem. What does HP suggest its customers do when they sell them a computer that has this issue?

Thanks for the response.
Performing a recovery will wipe out any corrupted software or even if there are any virus in the computer and make it as a brand new one.
Please take a back up and let me know when you are ready to perform a recovery.
Keep me posted. 🙂
