Hi, I have a brand new HP Envy laptop (2 weeks old). A Windows update (KB5058499) failed to load 2 or 3 days ago. I checked my history to find this update had already been successfully installed a few days earlier. I could not see why it was asking to be downloaded again but decided to uninstall the original update and try again. The second attempt to install failed again. The system went very slow and eventually shut down. The laptop will not now boot and it seems that Bitlocker is preventing the system from booting. I have been trying to contact HP most of the afternoon but so far have had no response. How on earth do you get in contact with these guys. This laptop is brand new so would expect them to respond pretty quickly.
Regards Andrew

@Anstonian, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your description, it seems that a failed Windows Update (KB5058499) may have triggered a system integrity check, prompting BitLocker to lock the drive. This is common when system files change unexpectedly or updates fail.
Here’s how you can resolve the issue and regain access to your HP Envy 17-da0000 laptop:
Retrieve Your BitLocker Recovery Key
Since BitLocker is enabled, you’ll need the recovery key to proceed. Try the following:
- Microsoft Account: Visit https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey and sign in with the Microsoft account used on the laptop.
- Printout or USB: If you saved the key to a USB drive or printed it, locate that.
- Organization Account: If this is a work device, your IT admin may have the key.
Enter the Recovery Key
Once you have the key:
- Power on the laptop.
- When prompted by BitLocker, enter the 48-digit recovery key.
- The system should unlock and attempt to boot.
Perform System Restore or Startup Repair
If the system still doesn’t boot after unlocking:
Access Recovery Environment:
- Power on and off the laptop 3 times during boot to trigger Windows Recovery.
- Or use a bootable Windows 11 USB drive.
Choose:
- Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.
- If that fails, try System Restore to revert to a point before the update.
Reinstall the Update (Optional)
Once the system boots:
- Pause updates temporarily.
- When ready, manually reinstall KB5058499 from Microsoft Update Catalog.
