Hi everyone. Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Hazar, a MIS student from Türkiye.
After 10 years, I started using HP computers again. And actually it's excellent, with a word.
But I have a problem about my keyboard. Windows button is not working consistent. One time it works, one time it doesn't.
Some people from the posts said it can be related with BIOS at a Turkish technology forum. I tried disabling Action Keys and re-enable again but it didn't work.
I have a Victus 16-R1028NT laptop.
What can be the cause of my problem?
Thank you for your answers.
Kindly regards.
Hazar

I updated the BIOS version F.14 2 days ago.
And guess what, Windows button is working correctly.
I guess this a general problem related with BIOS.
Thank you for your answers.
Kindly regards, Hazar.

Hi @KojiroHyuga04,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's great to hear you're enjoying your new laptop.
Regarding your issue with the Windows key not working consistently, here are a few things you can try:
Keyboard Driver Issues
Sometimes, outdated or corrupt drivers can cause specific keys, like the Windows key, to behave unpredictably. Try these steps:
- Go to Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
- Expand the Keyboards section and right-click your keyboard.
- Choose Uninstall device and restart your laptop.
- Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers. Check if the Windows key works after that.
Keyboard Shortcut Conflicts
Certain keyboard shortcuts might be conflicting, causing the Windows key to stop working intermittently. Specifically:
- Check if Sticky Keys or Filter Keys is enabled. To do this, go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and turn off Sticky Keys and Filter Keys if they're on.
- Also, some gaming software (like HP's OMEN Command Center) can interfere with the Windows key. If you have any gaming software installed, check its settings for any hotkey configurations.
Hardware Issue
There could be a hardware issue with your keyboard itself. If other keys are also behaving erratically, it might be worth checking whether the keyboard needs cleaning or if there’s any visible damage.
BIOS Settings
Since you mentioned some posts suggesting BIOS issues, it's possible there’s a setting in the BIOS that’s affecting the keyboard behavior. Here's how you can reset or check:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 during boot to enter the BIOS.
- Look for settings related to Action Keys or Keyboard settings and reset them to default.
- You could also perform a BIOS update if an update is available, as this might resolve compatibility issues.
Keyboard Testing
Test if the issue is specific to the Windows key:
- Try using an external keyboard to see if the Windows key works there.
- You could also run a keyboard test tool or use the built-in Keyboard Troubleshooter (found in Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot).
Software Interference
Some third-party software can cause issues with the Windows key. If you've installed any key remapping software or utilities, try disabling or uninstalling them to see if it resolves the problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
