Hi Everyone,

Hope you are having a great day !

I am posting this issue in the forum as a last resort and being unable to find a solution to my driver issue. I have been facing a windows freezing/ crashing issue whenever the Intel HD Graphics driver 5500 is being installed. The laptop was working smoothly until mid June 2024, I did not use it for a month and when I restarted the laptop in mind July I started seeing the windows freezing.

Initially I was able to hard-restart and would land on the login page, and the cursor would be frozen again. So I tried the following fixes:

1. chkdsk /F

2. sfc /scannow

3. Dism

4. Uninstalling Windows Updates

5. Uninstalled intel and nvidia drivers

6. Reset PC

7. Checked for hardware issues using HP hardware diagnostics (F2 on the boot) and all components passed the test except the SSD which says wear is 45%.

8. Installing a fresh windows using the media creation tool

9. Reinstalled all the drivers from HP page

However, nothing seems to be working. Currently when I reboot I only see a black screen and have to hard-restart 3 times to land on troubleshooting menu, boot into safe mode and replace the intel HD graphics driver with Microsoft basic display adapter. After these steps I am able to reboot successfully and login, however none of my display control works ( can't adjust brightness, screensaver, night- mode etc.).

I do have an NVIDIA GTX 950M graphis card as well for which the latest driver has been installed by the GeForce Experience software.

I would appreciate if anyone could provide a hint on issue resolution.

Specs:

HP Envy 15

Windows 10

Intel i7-5500U processor

16GB RAM

4GB NVIDIA GTX 950M Graphics

Thank you for your time!
