My laptop no longer allows me to use windows hello to log in, using fingerprints or face id.

I did a little search online and followed one of the videos on YouTube. So I uninstalled the biometric driver from the device manager , however I have no been able to install the driver back.

The model is HP ENVY x360 convert 15-es on windows 11

There are a lot of variations on the 15-es.

I am guessing this one

Try this 2022 driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp141001-141500/sp141262.exe

Possibly our exert @Paul_Tikkanen might have a newer driver but we would need your exact model to be sure.

Your laptop has a slightly newer driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp141001-141500/sp141263.exe

I found it here

There have been a number of bios updates but the last one that did something related to stability was F.14

I would not bother updating unless you have a bios older than f.14

HP appears to be discontinuing Cloud recover for laptops that are more than about 5 years old.  If still possibly, you might want to go here and save a copy of the cloud recovery.

I have downloaded that file and this on one from https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp121001-121500/sp121435.exe

But when I go to the device manager, I still do not see biometric driver.

Am I doing something wrong with downloading, I just download and press next and install, am I missing a step?

I have also tried to manually add the drivers from sp121435 onto device manager, but I get this error message.

Thank you

That error message indicates that your version of windows is not compatible with the windows version downloaded.

You may have file corruption

SFC and DISM are both tools that scan and repair corrupted system files. However, SFC uses a cached version of the files, while DISM uses the internet to download and fix the files.

Try the SFC first and if that gives a message that it cannot fix the problem then try the DISM tool.

Let me know what you find out.
