Product: HP laptop

My best friend gave me a HP laptop yesterday. I tried updating it & this messages popped up: “The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer,and then restart the installation." Over and over again. It doesn’t let me do anything 

 

i tried doing the system diagnostics but I don’t know what to do after that. Please help.
