I recently purchased a HP LAPTOP that came with Windows 11S installed. Microsoft discourages installing an additional browser. I would like to download Google Chrome, but I fear it may cause problems. Any advice or suggestions?

Correction -- "Windows 11S"

Windows 11 S is a streamlined version of Windows 11 designed for enhanced security and performance, allowing users to only install apps from the Microsoft Store. This mode is particularly beneficial for users who prioritize safety and efficiency, as it limits the risk of malware and optimizes system resources.

The following is not relevant to "Windows S Mode"

Microsoft has a vested interest in protecting Windows and Microsoft products, including their Edge Browser.

You may do what you like.

Windows' day to day operations are your responsibility anyway -- you can download and run Browsers that are compatible with your Operating System / version.

If you do install an obscure browser that ends up doing harm to your Windows File System, then yes -- it will be up to you to resolve any problems.

The "standard" browsers in the industry are not rabid animals set out to do you harm.

I run four browsers -- one of these is Edge (occasional use), another is Firefox.

Chrome is not an obscure browser -- it is an industry standard.

It's understandable to be cautious about installing software on a Windows 11 S mode device, as this mode is designed to enhance security and performance by limiting the software you can install to apps from the Microsoft Store.
