@thatEnvyguy, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you are encountering issues with setting up your fingerprint after resetting your computer, here are some steps you can follow to resolve the problem:

Verify Fingerprint Reader Connection:

  • Make sure that your fingerprint reader is properly connected and recognized by your computer. You can check this in the Device Manager.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that your fingerprint reader drivers are up to date. You can update the drivers through the Device Manager or by downloading the latest drivers from the HP support website.
  • Go to HP Support and enter your device model number to find the appropriate drivers.

Check Windows Biometric Services:

  • Make sure that Windows Biometric Services are running.
  • Type services.msc in the Windows search bar and press Enter. Locate the Windows Biometric Service and ensure it is running. If not, start the service.

Remove Existing Fingerprint Data:

  • Sometimes, old fingerprint data can cause problems when setting up new data.
  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and remove any existing fingerprints.

Reconfigure Fingerprint Sensor:

  • Try setting up your fingerprint again through the settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Fingerprint and follow the on-screen instructions.

System Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs and improve functionality for hardware like fingerprint readers.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for updates.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
