backslash is not accessible directly from swiss keyboard. The ALT GR L key with the backslash sign does not work; no backshlash displayes. The Fn + ALT + 92 mode works but is not nice.

any suggestions ?

@maxliG, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're unable to type the backslash (\) character directly using the Swiss keyboard layout on your HP Envy 17-da0000 laptop with Windows 11. You're right that using Fn + Alt + 92 is not ideal for regular use. Let's explore a few solutions to make this more convenient:

Confirm the Keyboard Layout in Windows

Sometimes, the wrong layout might be selected even if the language is correct.

  1. Go to: Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region
  2. Under Preferred Languages, click your language (e.g., German (Switzerland) or French (Switzerland)), then click Options.
  3. Under Keyboards, ensure the correct layout is selected:
    • For German (Switzerland): Swiss German
    • For French (Switzerland): Swiss French
  4. If not listed, click Add a keyboard and choose the correct one.
  5. Remove any incorrect layouts to avoid accidental switching.

Use the On-Screen Keyboard to Locate the Key

To verify if the key is mapped correctly:

  1. Press Windows + Ctrl + O to open the On-Screen Keyboard.
  2. Hold Alt Gr and see if the backslash appears on any key.
  3. If it does, but your physical keyboard doesn’t respond, it could be a hardware or driver issue.

Update or Reinstall the Keyboard Driver

  1. Right-click the Start button → Device Manager
  2. Expand Keyboards
  3. Right-click your keyboard device → Uninstall device
  4. Restart your PC – Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Alternatively, you can check for updated drivers via HP Support Assistant:

Try Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (Advanced)

If the key is not functioning as expected, you can remap it using Microsoft’s tool:

External Keyboard (Optional)

If this is a frequent issue and none of the above workarounds are ideal, consider using an external USB keyboard with a layout that includes a dedicated backslash key.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
