Hi @kalyan22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing battery-draining issues with your HP Pavilion laptop, there could be several reasons behind it. Here are some common causes and troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the problem.

  • Background Apps and Processes: Check for any background apps or processes that might be consuming excessive power. Close unnecessary applications running in the background, especially resource-intensive ones.
  • Power Settings: Verify that your power settings are appropriately configured. Go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" and make sure you are using a balanced or power-saving plan. Avoid using the high-performance plan if battery life is a concern.
  • Brightness and Display: Reduce the screen brightness and consider lowering the display timeout. The display is a significant power drain, and adjusting these settings can help conserve battery life.
  • Battery Calibration: Perform a battery calibration to ensure accurate reporting of battery capacity. To do this, let your battery drain completely until the laptop shuts down, then recharge it to 100% without interruption.
  • Software Updates: Ensure that your operating system and drivers are up to date. Manufacturers often release updates to optimize power management and fix known issues.
  • Malware Check: Run a malware scan to make sure no malicious software is causing excess CPU usage and draining your battery.
  • Background Sync and Notifications: Disable or limit background sync and unnecessary notifications as they can consume battery power.
  • Check for Power-Hungry Applications: Some applications might be using more power than others. Check the task manager to identify if any particular app is using excessive resources.
  • Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: If you're not using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, turn them off as they can consume power even when not in active use.
  • Battery Health Check: Some laptops come with built-in tools to check battery health. Utilize these tools to determine if the battery's health is compromised.
  • Physical Battery Issues: If you have tried all the software-related troubleshooting steps and are still facing battery problems, it's possible that the battery itself is faulty and needs replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi,

I went through the different suggestions made above but I wanted to understand how the laptop battery can be completely drained out. My laptop was used 7 days ago and when I moved it to hibernate, the battery charge was at 100%, however, when I started my laptop, it was completely drained. I ran the battery diagnostics, but it is not showing any issues. It's not only with hibernation, even sometimes when I do a shutdown, the next time the battery is fully discharged.

Please share your valuable thoughts. TIA!
