Hi I followed one of your post that is archived as was having problems with a new battrey, when unplugged would last 1 min before laptop would crashed. So I followed one of your archived posts, it said:

Step 1. Go to Device Manager
Step 2. Select Batteries
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 4. Click Uninstall
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
Step 6. Shutdown the computer

Step 7: Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in

When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

When I followed the steps, to the T latop now doesn't boot.

Can you help please?

@FFS2,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is not booting to Windows.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Are you getting any error when you start the computer?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

Hi @FFS2, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @The_Fossette, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.

Does the PC turn on only when the adapter is connected?

As you mentioned when you unplug the battery the PC turns off.

Try updating the BIOS on the PC and check if it helps.

Update the BIOS using this link. Click Here

Also, try running a battery test from F2 and check if the battery is functioning correctly.

Refer this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC. Click Here

If the test fails replace the faulty battery on the laptop.

I will share you few details through a private message about the service options for the laptop.

Please watch your inbox for more information.

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂

That bois update you gave link for it said not compatible with my device. I downloaded the right one for my laptop it was sp54724 to get right version I went to the HP website hovered over support, click software and drivers, clicked the laptop picture, entered product number witch is under battery. The laptop would not switch on for about 30 minutes after removing battery to see product number. All that trouble and it tuned out I have the latest bois anyway. I could not complete the battery test as the minute I unplug the lead the laptop dies even know on desktop it say 100% charged.
