Insert Photoshop CD in drive, nothing happens, cannot even read CD. Wife's laptop, but I need my Photoshop 7 here also.

I found this (search on the 'net) that explains how one customer installed Photoshop 7 on Windows 10.

Regardless of the difference in Windows versions (10 as compared to your 8.x), the "workarounds" look pretty straight forward.

Article:

How to install Photoshop 7 on Windows 10 64bit

In particular, an easy method that may work and takes only a few minutes to try (excerpted from the forum article):

I) Create a Photoshop folder on your hard drive i.e. Drive C - Adobe - Photoshop 7

2) Copy all files from your CD to this folder - drag & drop

3) Start Windows 10 in 'safe mode'

4) Open the new folder and click on the .exe file

Photoshop 7 should now load without a hitch - then restart normally and run the programme.

Unsolicited Comments

In general, you will perhaps find answers of this type in the Adobe Forum realm - the "issue" if there is one, is not likely related to your brand of computer and may instead have more to do with your Windows OS and the vagaries of the File System.

Sorry Dragon-fur, the problem is with the machine/software. The DVD drive does not even recognize the Photoshop CD!

I have a bigger problem... Just tried a CD full of photos, drive would not recognize it either!

Great, Now what do I do? 😞

I believe (though I don't really remember) that the Reliability Report is in the same location in Windows 8 as for Windows 10.

NOTE

Use of the Event Viewer and even the Reliability Report may - or may not - be relevant in this situation.  In particular, if the Optical Drive fails the hardware tests, nothing in the results for the Event Viewer or the Reliability Report are likely to be of any use to you.  ?
