My HP Spectre 13.5 inch laptop has a mind of its own (and I am not talking about AI).
The cursor moves around the screen at will, without me touching anything) and opens and shuts files and moves things around like a poltergeist (though I have not seen one first hand).
This started in December and I got an HP technical support person to help me ... the problem seemed to have gone away but ... like a sequel 'It's Back'!!!
Has anyone else had this issue ... it is driving me nuts and renders the laptop useless until the poltergeist leaves and heads off to f**k up someone else's life!!
Any help MUCH appreciated

Hi @ChrisV58,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP Spectre X360 13.5-inch laptop's cursor behaving erratically, almost as if it has a mind of its own. This can indeed be quite frustrating, but there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:
- Check for Physical Obstructions: Sometimes, dust, dirt, or other debris can accumulate around the touchpad or mouse sensor, causing erratic behavior. Use compressed air or a soft brush to gently clean around these areas.
- Update Drivers: Ensure that your touchpad drivers are up-to-date. You can usually find the latest drivers on HP's official website under the support section for your specific laptop model. Software and Drivers for HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef0000
- Calibrate Touchpad Settings: Windows allows you to adjust touchpad sensitivity and other settings. You can try calibrating these settings to see if it helps stabilize the cursor movement. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad to access these settings.
- Disable Touchpad: Temporarily disable the touchpad and see if the issue persists when using an external mouse. This can help determine if the problem lies with the touchpad itself or with other system issues.
- Scan for Malware: Sometimes, malware or unwanted software can cause unexpected behavior on your computer. Perform a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out any malicious programs.
- System Restore: If the issue started after a recent software update or installation, you can try performing a system restore to revert your computer to a previous state when it was functioning normally.

I hope this helps.
