Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When typing, the touchpad thinks I want to move the cursor and click on various things.  I don't! I want to turn off that functuality.   I have done so on a number of other computers, but the touchpad settings do not have that, on this one.  They only allow me to make it less sensitive.

Bad engineering!  They're redesigning the wheel and making it square.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

To Enable or Disable TouchPadfeature, open the TouchPad tab in Mouse Properties.

  1. Click Start, and then type mouse in the search field.
  2. Click Change your mouse settings.
  3. Click Additional mouse options.
  4. In Mouse Properties, click the TouchPad tab. ...
  5. Click Disable.
  6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake,

Thanx for your reply.  You misunderstood.  I am not trying to disable the touchpad, but the click function for it.  I need the touchpad when I am not able to use a USB mouse.  I need the mouse functions and the right and left buttons.

Unfortunately, there is a click function on the touchpad, itself.  That

operates may times, itself.  A perfect example is the sentence before this.  Between "That" and "operates" there is a linefeed, but I never typed it.  My motion above the touchpad picked up the cursor and moved it to the line below.

I want to disable the touchpad click function.   I have other HP computers on which I have done so.  There are many help articles in the help files telling how to do so.  They all have steps that can not be completed because the function they say to choose is not on my machine.

All drivers and updates have been completed thru Windows Update and the HP Support Assistant.

The Device Manager says it is a Synaptics SMBus Touchpad.  It says the driver is up to date.
