Hi @billchase46

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering issues while trying to reinstall the driver for your HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer and the installation process gets stuck at a blank box, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Cancel the Installation:

  • If the installation is stuck and not progressing, try to cancel it. This can usually be done by clicking on the "Cancel" or "Exit" button within the installation window. If it says the installation will stop, go ahead and cancel it.

Disconnect the Printer:

  • Before proceeding with the driver installation, make sure your printer is disconnected from your computer. Unplug the USB cable or disconnect any network connections.

Reboot Your Computer:

  • After canceling the installation, reboot your computer. Sometimes, conflicts or background processes can interfere with driver installations, and a fresh start can help.

Download the Driver Again:

  • Download the latest driver for your HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer from the official HP website. Ensure that you download the correct driver for your operating system (e.g., Windows or macOS).

Run the Installer as Administrator (Windows):

  • Right-click on the driver installer file (the one you downloaded) and select "Run as administrator." This can help avoid any permission-related issues.

Follow the On-Screen Instructions Carefully:

  • When you run the installer, follow the on-screen instructions carefully. Don't skip any steps, and make sure to connect the printer only when prompted by the installer.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Ensure that no other printer software or conflicting programs are running in the background during the installation.

Temporarily Disable Antivirus/Firewall:

  • Sometimes, security software can interfere with installations. Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall while you install the printer driver, but make sure to re-enable them afterward.

Use HP Support Assistant (Windows):

  • If you're using Windows, consider using the HP Support Assistant to help with driver installations. It can identify and fix common printer issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
