Spectre 360X
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

when I attempt to encrypt a file on my Spectre 360 notebook, there is not an option to do so in properties for that file.

The option is NOT in Properties as such -- you have to click the Advanced button there to see the option.

The advanced tab also does not show an option to encrypt on this laptop

It's not a Tab.  There is a button in the Properties window that says Advanced.  If you are selecting Tab, you are somewhere else.

I selected the button that says advanced and there is no information pertaining to encryption. I bought this laptop in Feb 2020 and have already reset it twice for several different issues, one being that the bluetooth is not working and the tech on this site talked me thru steps to try and remedy, and decided it was a hardware issue, so I am wandering if this, too might be a hardware issue.

Factory Resets all too often do not work -- which is why I never recommend them.

But, that could be part of the issue.

IF you want to try a Repair-Install of Win10 which will overwrite the Windows system files and leave everything else intact, then do the following:

1) Use this info to save off your current HP drivers:   https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/68426-backup-restore-device-drivers-windows-10-a.html

2) Use the link to download Win10 installation media and either burn a DVD or create a USB stick: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10

Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). Make sure you select the same version as needed for your PC. If you do not, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!

Once you have that media, follow the instructions in the link: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html

3) Once that is done, restore the HP drivers from the backup you saved in 1)

Good Luck

I often wandered how a reset would work,  too, because once you reset Windows, then do all the updates, seems to me as you are right back where you started.

This laptop is still under warranty and I don't feel secure in performing all these actions as I am not a technician and have little experience in computer technology.  I bought this laptop simply to use, not to have to do all these diagnostic and repairs.  I had a windows computer years ago that had Windows XP and do not remember having to do all this.  Then I bought an IPad that had its own issues, and decided to return to Windows.  It appears from all I have read about Windows 10  that Microsoft needs to come up with some fixes and patches.  I am very disappointed as this particular HP model of laptop had rave revues which is why I bought it.  thanks for your assistance anyway.

I understand you frustration with the PC, but you shouldn't have charged ahead and done resets presuming those would automatically fix the issues.  That only made matters worse,.

If the PC is still under the original warranty, you paid for free HP Tech Support as part of the warranty coverage, so you might as well make use of it.

Unfortunately, we are NOT HP Tech Support and we have no way to diagnose or repair your PC, so while this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about troubleshooting and repairing your machine remotely.

I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet to check out the problems.

If they are unable to fix your PC, then you need to explore what options you have to get it replaced under the warranty.
