Hi, I had to reinstall my operating system due to PC issues. Now when I try to reinstall the Envy RTX 2060 drivers, I get error 43 and it doesn't finish installing the driver. How can I fix it?

Hi @GREGORIO5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you see error Code 43 indicates that Windows has stopped the device because it reported problems, which is often related to driver issues or conflicts. Here are some steps you can take to resolve Error 43 when installing NVIDIA drivers on an HP Envy with an RTX 2060 graphics card:

Uninstall Existing Drivers:

  • Use Device Manager to uninstall the existing graphics drivers:
    1. Press Windows + X and select "Device Manager."
    2. Expand "Display adapters," right-click the NVIDIA RTX 2060, and select "Uninstall device."
    3. If prompted, check the box to "Delete the driver software for this device."
  • Restart your PC to completely remove the old drivers.

Install the Latest Drivers:

  • After restarting, attempt to install the latest drivers downloaded from the NVIDIA website. Ensure you are installing the driver as an Administrator by right-clicking the installer and selecting "Run as administrator."

Check Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system is fully up-to-date. Sometimes, recent OS updates include patches that resolve driver conflicts.

BIOS Update:

  • Ensure your system BIOS is up-to-date, as BIOS updates can resolve compatibility issues. You can find the latest BIOS update on the HP Support website by entering your product number.

Disable Fast Startup:

  • Disable Windows Fast Startup, which can sometimes interfere with full driver loading sequences:
    1. Go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options."
    2. Click on "Choose what the power buttons do."
    3. Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable."
    4. Under "Shutdown settings," uncheck "Turn on fast startup."
    5. Save the changes and restart your computer.

Clean Install of Drivers:

  • During the installation of your NVIDIA drivers, select "Custom (Advanced)" and then check "Perform a clean installation." This option helps reset the NVIDIA driver settings.

Try an Older Driver:

  • If the issue persists with the latest driver, try downloading and installing an older driver version that was previously working with your GPU.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Good morning, thank you for answering me, I performed exactly the whole procedure but error 43 does not go away, I'm afraid that the GPU does not start the operating system sees it but at the end of the driver installation it is unhooked and the error returns. From UBUNTU it seems that the gpu is seen but not in the Windows environment. I don't know if there are other tests to check if my GPU is still useable. Thank you
