Hi  @ayush25kumar,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear ypur concern on how it can be when Windows fingerprint recognition and facial recognition stop working on your laptop, dont worry let me help you with this.

Could you kindly confirm the below details :

  1. Are both Fingerprint Reader and Face Recognition unavailable, or is only one of them affected?
  2. Do you see any error messages in Windows Hello settings?

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

1. Check Windows Hello Settings

  • Go to Settings - Accounts -Sign-in options.
  • Verify whether Fingerprint Recognition and Facial Recognition (Windows Hello Face) are listed.
  • If available, remove the existing setup and re-enroll your fingerprint and face profile.

2. Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand:
    • Biometric Devices
    • Cameras
  • Look for any devices with a yellow warning symbol.
  • Right-click the fingerprint reader and camera devices and select Update driver.

3. Restart the Windows Biometric Service

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Windows Biometric Service.
  • Ensure it is running.
  • If it is running, right-click and select Restart.

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (Link for steps - Click here )

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Power it on and repeatedly tap F2.
  • Run the available component tests, particularly for the fingerprint reader, camera, and system board if listed.
  • Let us know the results.

5. Check Privacy Settings

  • Go to Settings - Privacy & Security -Camera.
  • Ensure camera access is enabled for Windows and applications

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
