Hi @Ashish2510,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble using the special function keys, such as brightness and volume controls, on your HP laptop, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
- Update Drivers: Ensure that your laptop's drivers are up to date. Visit the official HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download the latest drivers for your system, especially those related to keyboard and function keys.
- HP Hotkey Support: Some HP laptops require the installation of the HP Hotkey Support utility for the special function keys to work correctly. Check if this utility is installed on your laptop, and if not, download and install it from the HP support website.
- BIOS/UEFI Settings: Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during the laptop's startup (usually by pressing F10 or Esc when the HP logo appears) and check if there are any settings related to function keys or hotkeys. Ensure that they are enabled.
- Function Lock (Fn Lock): Some laptops have a function lock key (usually labeled "Fn Lock" or similar). Pressing this key toggles between using the regular function keys (F1, F2, etc.) and the special function keys (volume, brightness, etc.). Make sure the Fn Lock is not activated.
- Keyboard Shortcut: Check if there is a specific key combination (usually involving the Fn key) to enable or disable the special function keys. This information is often indicated on the keys themselves.
- Windows Mobility Center: Open the Windows Mobility Center by pressing the Windows key + X and selecting "Mobility Center." Check if there are settings for brightness and volume that you can adjust.
- Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Install any pending updates, as these updates might include fixes for issues related to hardware functionality.
- Third-Party Software: Some third-party software, especially utilities related to keyboard or system management, may interfere with the proper functioning of function keys. Try disabling or uninstalling such software to see if it resolves the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
