hello, I've asked here before a few questions and one person answered only one of them. after that, no one answered again, so I open a new post.

I run windows 10 64bit on this laptop and I have 2 issues.

1. the scrolling with the trackpad is reversed and I cannot change it in the windows 10 settings.

2. my function keys work constantly if I wish to use f1-f12 I need to press the function keys, not the other way around how its supposed to be.

Hi @A14123,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the function keys and touchpad not working properly on your HP notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Did you make any attempts to disable the Fn (function) key?

If the issue recently occurred, did you attempt a system restore?

Did you check for any other HP Forum posts to help resolve your concern?

If you haven't, Here's a related HP Forums post that seems to have helped others: Click here for the steps.

While you respond to that, here's a few things you can do:

  1. Click the Start button, then click Run.

  2. In the Run window, next to Open, type MSCONFIG.

  3. Press the ENTER key.

  4. In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.

  5. On the Startup tab, under Startup Item, ensure that checkbox for "HKserv" is unchecked.

Next Issue with the Touchpad: The best document I have is the Using the TouchPad or ClickPad document. Please follow the steps in this document.

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver on your Notebook? If not, please follow the steps below.

  • Type in Search, "Device Manager",
  • Click On Device Manager,
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices,
  • Right Click on the TouchPad,
  • Click on Uninstall,
  • Restart the Notebook twice,
  • Reinstall the TouchPad Adapter.

Please use the HP Support Assistant. It will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating.

Have you tried to Update the TouchPad drivers in Device Manager? If not, please follow the steps below.

  • Type in Search, "Device Manager",
  • Click On Device Manager,
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices,
  • Right Click on the TouchPad,
  • Click on Update Driver Software,
  • Restart your Notebook.

Have you tried to restore all the defaults in the Synaptics Driver settings?

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.
