Hi @skylar63445,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
Experiencing a green screen followed by a black screen during gaming on your HP Laptop - 17-by3613dx can be indicative of several potential issues. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:
1. Update Graphics Drivers
Update from HP Support:
- Go to the HP Support website and enter your laptop model.
- Download and install the latest graphics drivers available.
Update from NVIDIA/AMD:
- If your laptop has a dedicated NVIDIA or AMD GPU, visit the NVIDIA website or AMD website and download the latest drivers for your GPU.
2. Check for Overheating
Monitor Temperatures:
- Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures.
- Ensure that the temperatures are within safe limits (generally below 85°C under load).
Improve Cooling:
- Clean the cooling fans and vents.
- Ensure that the laptop is on a hard, flat surface to allow proper airflow.
3. Adjust Graphics Settings
Lower In-Game Settings:
- Lower the graphics settings in Roblox Star Base to reduce the strain on your GPU and CPU.
- Try playing the game at a lower resolution or with reduced graphical effects.
Disable Background Applications:
- Close any unnecessary applications running in the background that might be using up resources.
4. Check for System and Game Updates
Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Install any available updates.
Game Updates:
- Ensure Roblox Star Base and any associated software are updated to the latest versions.
5. Run Hardware Diagnostics
- HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly during startup to access the HP Diagnostics menu.
- Run the Component Test to check for any hardware issues, particularly with the GPU and memory.
6. Check Power Settings
- Adjust Power Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select High Performance or create a custom power plan to ensure the laptop is not throttling performance to save power.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
