notebook 2000 412NR/15-f085wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently put a hp 15-f085wm(win10) hard drive into a hp 2000 412NR that came with windows 7.well i didnt  my wife did and now i have to repair it for her. I can usually google a pc troubleshoot but this one is a little unique. I think both hard dives are 500 gb but not sure. I do however know the newer hp-15 ran a uefi and the hp2000 ran an old bios. thought they would of made there UEFI compadible with bois but i guess not. So do i have to put the old hard drive back in (not really damaged) or can i manally install some sort of utility adaptor to help the bios read GPT instead of MGR? The newer hp was gave to me when a friend spilled tea in it, and assumed it was worthless and the older laptop came with windows 7 but was updated to windows 10 without a product key (wife again)  then worked for a week or two even activating after a couple day and eventlly crash and read  "no os readable, or no bootabe" now no matter which one she puts in reads "no os readably".  i need a solution on how to keep the GPT  hard drive in the hp 2000(mgr) without a recovery disk or product key unless its still in the new hard disk.

i have mutible USBs and a cheap internet accessable laptop w/o cd rom drive to use to fix. I know about win media creation tool but dont think i can use an iso from an acer product key on an hp. the acer is windows 10 also i probably need a boot if its convenent in the repair. freedos does boot to a command line, so i might could just use that. thanks in advance...

Hi

I got confused.  So I will give some info and then please ask specific questions.

KeyFinderInstaller may help....
https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

Doing research, and none of the methods are mine, I have some, simple single lines of code that will list the same value for your Windows 10 Product Key…
Two for Windows 10 and one for Linux.

W10 Using cmd.exe as an Administrator (copy and paste accordingly).

wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey >> c:\ProdKey.txt

Creates a text file called ProdKey.txt on your C:\ area.

Next is a PowerShell command, as Administrator...
(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey

but it will run within W10 using cmd.exe as an Administrator.
powershell (Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey

Last, but not least....
Linux@Lubuntu:~$ sudo cat /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/MSDM | strings | tail -n 1

W7 I use Belarc Advisor    and Piriform Speccy for W7 and W10.

Better than FreeDos is   https://lubuntu.net/downloads/, sometimes better than W7/W10 arf arf.

The Gparted tool is particularly useful.

@Mr_Anderson

First of all, you can't LEGALLY transfer the OS drive from one OEM PC to another -- as the license is tied to the PC, not to the owner. So, even if you did get the transferred drive working OK, you would still NOT be able to activate it.

Second, there is no BIOS utility that will allow the PC to read UEFI/BIOS interchangeably -- you have to reformat the filesystem in the drive to match the setting in the BIOS/UEFI.

I didnt ask if was legal to transfer lisences from one hard to another for "permission"to activate a verson of windows. Didnt if it is possible for a bios to read bios an uefi at the same time niether.   i already switched the hard drive(and did my 7 to 10) and want know how to get old computer to read new drive. Not 2 drives, just new drive. Thanks for trying

I will make the question a little easy for the readers who dont understand. Windows has old bios and new bios uefi. I put a newer uefi HARD DISK in an OLD BIOS pc. How do i get the old pc to read new hard drive?

Hi

 Bios/Booting for Hard Disks.     Legacy/Secure        MBR/GPT

So in the BIOS you may have the 2 to choose from, Legacy and Secure.

BIOS Boot One.png

Then you make the Hard Disk suit the above by Partitioning accordingly.

https://www.easeus.com/partition-master/convert-gpt-disk-to-mbr-disk.html

 https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/change-an-mbr-disk-into-a-gp...

If in doubt please ask.

Unfortunately the old bios doest have a legacy option in the utlity setup, im assuming because when it was produced the manufacturer didnt account for a 100 percent bios change 1 year later. I think win7 and under can be bios or uefi but everything after win7 is strickly uefi. After a week of reseach its clear they are not compatible so i had my wife put the old 1 back in. I chould really use some help with 2 other issues though lil blue.

1. The old hard is recognized by its original pc but after "InsydeH20 setup Utility"  which besides boots order, only has a few options(fan always on, action keys enabled, and a couple password options) i get a screen that says either no boot or no OS on hard drive please run dianostics. I run all the test and pc pass all the test. I didnt wipe or attempt to wipe drive. F11 doesnt work, i did try to merge ome with C: Right before system crashed be pc said it didnt work. Any advice here?

2. Ive had a problem with a hacker since September and ive done everything i can to no avail. Cops wont help mircosoft wont help and service provider trys but dont know much. Hacker has already crashed 3 pc and a xbox1(xbox was offline when inserted nimda trojan on to a fallout 4 mod) at this point im not trying to get rid of him, im just trying to regain power over my network. So im basically looking for a rapid fire string of commands or setting adjustments to completely take full control very quickly. There has to be some kind settings he cant change. Right now i can use registry cmd and my router settings but cant use "settings, shell and some services he has passwords on. I cant even turn airplane mode off. Any advice on some sort of power move i could make and maintain might just help fix all my problems.

Sorry for long question, just trying to answer all the questions that i might asked. Thanks

@Mr_Anderson

I have to commend @Lil_Boy_Blue for being so persistent with your issues, but it is really burdensome and bad idea to keep laying on problem after problem after problem.

A much better approach is to start a new thread for each different problem.  Expertise varies widely in the forum and different folks can see the different issues and respond individually to them.

As to a hacker, there is no magical cure that will secure any network. IF it has a WiFi access point, then disabling the broadcase of SSIDs can make it hard to find, but that still does not make it inaccessible.

What I have done, and others are likely advise the same, is to keep a record of the IP addresses that invade my network, then I go into my Router setup and add those addresses to the IP ban list.

Apart from completely disabling WiFi, there is little else you can do.

Hi

Well I am not convinced by your MBR/GPT analogy, but cannot challenge it as I don't have access to the HardWare.

Why are you being targeted?  Because it's easy?  Because they don't like you?  Either way...

Hacker gets in via your ISP and/or your WiFi.

So in your WiFi list you only allow a handful of MAC addresses to connect, even knowing the SSID and PassWord does not get access.

Device name MAC address IP address Speed (Mbps) Connected to

LBB-Slaptop48:48:48:48:48:27192.168.0.11/2470.41Wireless frequency 2.4 GHz WhiffyOne
android10:10:10:10:10:88192.168.0.12/245.85Wireless frequency 5 GHz WhiffyToo

Obviously I have a password on My ISP supplied box and because you cannot randomly attach to my WiFi, you need cable access, sitting in a chair and plugging in an ethernet cable in my house.

My ISP box has a firewall and it is on.

IPv4 firewall  Firewall protection  Enable

Block fragmented IP packets   Enable

Port scan detection   Enable

IP flood detection   Enable

My HOSTS file has many many entries

It helps but doesn't stop everything.  Bit Defender etc also help.

But never knowingly been a specific target I cannot really help.

If I wanted to hack your system I would probably use...  BackTrack
Read what it is capable of and try to install countermeasures.
Change your habits and operating system.
