Microsoft Windows 11

Hello! Please tell me how can I turn on the keyboard backlight on my  laptop so that all the keys are constantly illuminated? OMEN by HP Laptop 17-ck0033ur (4Z2K8EA). Unfortunately, the combination of keys F4+ FN turns on the topmost row of buttons, and the rest do not light up. I can't find the answer in any of the instructions.

@Anna20252025,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

On your OMEN by HP Laptop 17, the keyboard backlight should illuminate all keys, not just the top row. Try the following steps to enable full backlighting.

Use the Correct Key Combination

For OMEN laptops, the backlight is usually controlled by F4 (or F5) + FN. However, if this only lights up the top row, try these alternatives:

  • Just press F4 (or F5) without FN
  • Try FN + Spacebar

Check OMEN Gaming Hub Settings

Your laptop’s lighting settings might be customized in the OMEN Gaming Hub:

  1. Open OMEN Gaming Hub (Search for it in Windows).
  2. Go to Lighting settings.
  3. Ensure All Keys are selected for illumination.
  4. Adjust brightness or select a static mode if it's set to an effect.

Check Windows Mobility Center (if available)

  1. Press Win + X and select Mobility Center.
  2. Look for a Keyboard Backlighting option and increase brightness.

Update OMEN Command Center & BIOS

If the lighting still doesn’t work correctly, update:

  • OMEN Gaming Hub via Microsoft Store.
  • BIOS & Drivers from HP Support.

Perform a Power Reset

Sometimes, a power reset can restore lighting functionality:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the charger and any peripherals.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
