Hi @002280,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your keyboard backlight isn’t working, and the shortcut keys (Fn + F3, F4, or F5) aren’t responding. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check if the Backlight Feature is Available

Not all HP laptops include a backlit keyboard.

Look closely at the F5, F4, or Spacebar key — if it has a small light icon, your model supports backlighting.

Try the Correct Key Combination

For most HP laptops, press Fn + F5, Fn + F4, or sometimes just F5 or F4 (depending on model).

On some Pavilion and Omen models, the Spacebar key toggles the keyboard light — try pressing it while holding the Fn key.

Enable Backlight in HP Command Center or OMEN Gaming Hub

Open HP Command Center or OMEN Gaming Hub if installed.

Go to Lighting or Keyboard settings and check if the backlight is turned off or dimmed.

Adjust the brightness or color from this menu.

Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

Open Device Manager → Keyboards.

Right-click Standard PS/2 Keyboard → select Update driverSearch automatically.

If it doesn’t help, uninstall the driver and restart the laptop — Windows will reinstall it automatically.

Check BIOS Settings

Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then select F10 (BIOS Setup).

In the BIOS menu, look for Keyboard Backlight or Action Keys Mode and ensure it’s enabled.

Save changes and restart.

Power Reset the Laptop

Turn off your laptop, disconnect the charger, and remove any external devices.

Hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge any residual power.

Reconnect power and check if the backlight keys start working again.

I hope this helps.
