Hi @Ogechi26,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Assertion Failed" error can be caused by a variety of issues, including software conflicts, outdated drivers, corrupted system files, or specific application bugs. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.
Update the Application:
- If the error occurs when using a specific application, check for any updates or patches for that application. Developers often release updates to fix bugs and compatibility issues.
Reinstall the Application:
- Uninstall the problematic application, restart your computer, and then reinstall it. This can resolve any issues related to corrupted installation files.
Update Visual C++ Redistributable Packages:
- Download and install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages from the Microsoft website.
Run System File Checker (SFC):
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator (right-click on the Start button and select "Command Prompt (Admin)" or "Windows PowerShell (Admin)").
- Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This will scan and repair corrupted system files.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure your operating system is up to date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and checking for updates.

Update Device Drivers:
- Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause this error. Update your drivers by visiting the HP website or using Windows Device Manager.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Disable any third-party antivirus or security software temporarily to see if it is causing the issue.
- Perform a clean boot to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. Instructions for a clean boot can be found here.
Modify Runtime Library Settings:
- For developers or advanced users, modifying the runtime library settings in the project properties of the application causing the error might help. Ensure that you are using the correct runtime library settings for your application.
Check for Malware:
- Perform a full system scan with your antivirus software to ensure that your system is not infected with malware, which can cause unexpected behavior and errors.
Consult Event Viewer:
- Open Event Viewer (search for it in the Start menu) and look for any logs related to the error. This can provide more details about the cause of the issue.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Assertion Failed" error.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden!
thanks for the prompt response, i have tried out almost all the options here but it still keeps popping out. The last one i am still trying out is the command prompt, unfortunately its not accepting the prompt (sfc/scannnow) , I will keep trying to have it off my system.
