Thanks for replying,

I do understand your concern,

Here is what I would suggest to you:

  1. Click on Start menu, select Settings
  2. Select Ease of Access
  3. Go to Keyboards option
  4. Turn on Toggle key (Hear a tone when you press Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock)
  5. Turn on Toggle Keys by holding NUM LOCK key for 5 Seconds
  6. Go to Other Settings
  7. Turn on "Display a warning message when turning a setting on with a shortcut"

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers!

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, you wish to know if num lock is disabled on your keyboard,

I'd like to thank you for the detailed description of your concern, as you have ensured I don't have to ask any more questions, that said,

To check if the num lock is disabled, try the following steps:

  1. Click Start, type on-screen in the search field, then select On-Screen Keyboard from the search results list.

  2. When the On-Screen Keyboard displays, click Options.

  3. In the Options window, select Turn off numeric keypad, then click the OK button to save the change.

  4. Close the On-Screen Keyboard.

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers!

thanks for your reply but this is not what  i've asked.

My keyboard has no light to indicate if bloc num is "on" or "off" as most keyboards have.

Thus, i woul like to know (without activatin on-screen kerboard) Bloc num's status.

I use to have a lenovo with de same problem, a IT guy installed (or activated) a driver that every time y touch caps or bloc num a mesagge apeared on screen (just ot a while).

Thanks in advance,.

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

Some HP notebook computers come with integrated numeric keypads. However, the numeric keypad used in these computers differs from the standard numeric keypad in that it does not have a dedicated number lock key (Num Lock) with which to toggle between numeric input and other functions. By default, the numeric keypad is always On, allowing for number input only. In some situations, the numeric keypad is inadvertently turned Off. If the numeric keypad gets turned off, you can use the Windows On-Screen Keyboard to turn it back on.

Therefore, the steps given above in my first post is the only way to find out if Num lock is On or Off.

Hope this answers your query,

If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to us 🙂

Cheers!

As a mother of fact, my pc has a key to block numeric pad. but the problem is that has no status indicator.

I can turn on/off but do not know status without typing a thing!

Thanks anyway, MAx

Thanks for responding,

If the indicator on num lock key stopped functioning, the other way to find out (if num lock key is disabled or enabled) is through the steps I have provided.

I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Please check your forum private message box next to the bell notification icon on the upper right-hand corner for a private message from me for further assistance.

i really apreciate you answer.

but my keyboard functions ok, as i said before there is no led or ondicator on it. I will repeat. the indicator is no broken since it has no one.

the keayboard also has a phisical key for activating bloc num (with no indicator on it nor in the rest of the laptop) it functions ok. i can activate or deactivate whitout the need of using de OSK, but i would like to know status of block num whitout trying numerical pad.

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I'm glad I could contribute in identifying and leading you towards an acceptable solution.

That said, all I can say is good luck on finding the alternatives as the message on OSD is not supported by HP.
