Hi @max4610,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you’re seeing HP Display Control reinstalling repeatedly on your Victus by HP 15‑fa1000 (Windows 11) and failing with Error 1603 in Reliability History. This behavior occurs when Windows Update or HP Support Assistant keeps trying to deploy a component that is no longer compatible or required.

Below are the recommended supported steps to stop this permanently.

Step 1: Completely remove HP Display Control

  1. Go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps
  2. Uninstall:
    • HP Display Control
    • HP Display Control Service (if listed)
  3. Restart the laptop

HP reference (general HP app removal): How To Uninstall Programs On Windows 10 | HP® Tech Takes

Step 2: Disable HP Display Control service (important)

  1. Press Win + R
  2. Type services.msc and press Enter
  3. Look for:
    • HP Display Control Service
  4. If present:
    • Double‑click it
    • Click Stop
    • Set Startup type to Disabled
    • Click Apply → OK
  5. Restart the system

Step 3: Prevent Windows Update from reinstalling it

Option A: Hide the update (Microsoft supported)

  1. Download Microsoft’s “Show or Hide Updates” tool: How do I download the software "show or hide updates" for my windows 11 pro? - Microsoft Q&A
  2. Run the tool
  3. Choose Hide updates
  4. Select HP Display Control
  5. Finish and restart

Option B: Disable HP Support Assistant auto‑installs

  1. Open HP Support Assistant
  2. Click Settings
  3. Disable:
    • Automatically install updates
  4. Close the app and restart

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
