Hi @iLikeTech,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for your question regarding the auto power-on behavior when opening the lid of your HP Envy x360 14" 2-in-1 Laptop (14-fa0000, 8Z8P7AV). You're right — Windows offers options for closing the lid, but opening the lid to turn on the laptop is controlled at the firmware level (BIOS), not in Windows settings.

How to Disable "Power On When Lid Opens"

To control or disable this behavior, please follow these steps:

Step-by-Step (BIOS Settings)

  1. Shut down your laptop completely.
  2. Press the power button and immediately begin pressing F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup.
  3. Once in the BIOS:
    • Use the arrow keys to navigate to the Advanced tab.
    • Look for an option called:

"Lid Open Resume" or "Power On When Lid Opens"

  • Set this to Disabled.
  1. Press F10 to Save and Exit.

Note: If you don’t see this setting, your BIOS version may not expose this control. In that case, try updating your BIOS first (see below).

Optional: Update BIOS (If Setting Not Available)

  1. Go to the official HP Drivers page for your model:
    🔗 HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-fa-0000 (8Z8P7AV) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Suppo...
  2. Download and install the latest BIOS update.
  3. Reboot and re-enter BIOS (F10) to check if the "Lid Open Resume" option appears.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
