Welcome to HP Support Community, @aayan786

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

1. Basic Checks
a. Restart Your Laptop

A simple restart reloads the HP Hotkeys service.

b. Test Basic Hotkeys

Check if the following work:

Brightness (F2/F3)

Volume (F6/F7/F8)

Airplane Mode (F12)

Mute Mic (F8)

If some work and others don’t, the software driver is likely the issue.

 2. Ensure the FN Key Toggle Is Correct

Some HP laptops have an Action Keys Mode setting in BIOS.

Check BIOS

Restart your laptop.

Press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.

Go to System Configuration → Action Keys Mode.

Toggle it:

Enabled: Press F2 for brightness (no need for FN).

Disabled: Press FN + F2.

Save and exit.

3. Reinstall Required HP Hotkey Drivers

HP hotkeys require HP System Event Utility or HP HotKey Support.

For AMD/Intel Laptops (like HP Victus, Pavilion, Omen, Envy):

Install these:

A. HP System Event Utility

Search "HP System Event Utility + your model"

Install & reboot

B. HP Hotkey Support Driver

Same procedure:

Download → Install → Reboot

C. Install HP Quick Launch Buttons (old models only)

 4. Update BIOS & Chipset

Hotkeys often fail due to outdated firmware.

Update BIOS

Go to HP Support → enter your laptop model.

Download and install the latest BIOS.

Update Chipset/Graphics Drivers

For HP Victus / OMEN (AMD):

Install AMD Chipset Driver

Install Radeon Graphics Driver

 5. Check HP Services

The hotkey service may be off.

Steps

Press Win + R, type services.msc.

Find: HP Hotkey UWP Service or HP Framework Service

Make sure:

Status: Running

Startup Type: Automatic

Restart the service if needed.

 6. Check Windows Updates

New Windows updates can break HP Hotkeys.

Do this:

Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update

Install all required updates

Restart

 7. Reset the Keyboard Driver

Press Win + X → Device Manager

Expand Keyboards

Right-click → Uninstall device

Restart the PC
Windows will reinstall the keyboard driver automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I am an HP Employee. Although I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
