hi guys , i have pavilion g6 SN: [personal info removed], product name : HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC
i just upraded hdd to sdd and added two ddr3 4GB ram, somehow my ram speed is stuck at 666mhz and i can figure out how to increase it to its base speed of 1333 mhz , i suspected this has to do with bios being too old and outdated and i cant find my bios version to update it,
this laptop has never gone through a bios update since it was bought >\.
would appreciate any help you can offer , thank you

Hi:

There isn't anything wrong with what you are seeing, and a BIOS update will do nothing to make any difference.

The advertised speed of the memory is double what it actually is.

In other words, if you only had one 1333 Mhz memory chip, it would be running in single channel mode at 666 MHz.

In dual channel mode, it runs at 1333 MHz, but the speed is still reported as only 666 MHz.

So, if the notebook is running in dual channel mode, you multiply the 666 MHz by 2 and you will have the 1333 MHz dual channel speed.

If you run the free utility I zipped up and attached below it will show you the same information, but you will also see the notebook's memory is running in dual channel mode.

Look at the summary window after you run the report and the Mode section of the summary should indicate dual channel.
