When I try turning on my hp stream 11 the screen flashes white for a second then goes black, the power light turns on but goes off with the screen, it’s only been used 3 times and hasn’t been hit or dropped so the screen ain’t broke but it won’t turn on.

Hi @BrentonGarrett,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing with your HP Stream 11 could be related to power, hardware, or a corrupted system file. Below are some steps to troubleshoot the problem.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Unplug the charger and disconnect any peripherals (like USB devices).
  2. Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  3. Plug the charger back in (don’t reconnect any other devices yet).
  4. Try powering it on.

Check the Power Source and Charger

  • Ensure the charger is working properly by testing it on another compatible device or using a different charger.
  • Look for a charging light on the laptop to confirm it's receiving power.

Attempt a BIOS Reset

If the screen briefly flashes white, it could indicate a BIOS issue.

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press and hold the Power button for about 3 seconds.
  3. Release the Power button but keep holding the Windows + B keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears (if it does).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to attempt recovery.

Test for Display Issues

It’s possible the system is powering on but not displaying properly.

  • Shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen after turning it on. If you can faintly see an image, the backlight may be faulty.
  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor using an HDMI cable. If the external display works, it’s a screen or cable issue.

Battery or Internal Component Issues

  • For a self-inspection:
    • Open the back cover carefully (only if you're comfortable with this) and check if the battery connection is secure.
    • Check for any visible signs of damage to internal components.

Recovery or Reinstallation

If hardware seems fine, there might be a corrupted operating system.

  • Try creating a Windows recovery USB using another computer and booting from it.
  • To boot from USB:
    1. Insert the USB drive.
    2. Power on the laptop and press F9 repeatedly to access the boot menu.
    3. Select the USB drive to attempt a repair or reinstallation of Windows.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
