@desktopzeus, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Windows Update Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're facing problems with Windows Update on your HP laptop, such as errors when downloading updates or getting stuck at installing, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve these issues.

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Select Windows Update and run the troubleshooter to find and fix problems.

Reset Windows Update Components:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Enter the following commands one by one:
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop cryptSvc
    net stop bits
    net stop msiserver
    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
    net start wuauserv
    net start cryptSvc
    net start bits
    net start msiserver
  • This will reset the Windows Update components. Try updating again after restarting your computer.

Check Disk Space:

  • Ensure that you have enough disk space to download and install updates.
  • Delete unnecessary files or transfer them to external storage to free up space.

Use Windows Update Assistant:

  • Download and run the Windows Update Assistant from the Microsoft website.
  • Follow the instructions to update to the latest version.

Clear Temporary Files:

  • Open Disk Cleanup and select the drive where Windows is installed.
  • Check the boxes for Temporary files, System files, and any other unneeded files, then click Clean up system files.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
