Hi @sean281,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Ensure Proper Power Connection:
- Double-check that the power adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the electrical outlet. A loose connection might cause issues during updates.
Check Power Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep and make sure your laptop’s power settings are configured to prevent it from going into sleep mode or shutting down during updates.
Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters and select Windows Update. Follow the on-screen instructions to identify and fix issues.
Perform a Clean Boot:
- Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with updates. Try performing a clean boot to see if that resolves the issue. Instructions for a clean boot can be found on Microsoft's support site.
Update Drivers:
- Outdated drivers might be causing problems. Check for updates for your drivers by going to Device Manager, right-clicking on your hardware, and selecting Update driver.
Download Updates Manually:
- Visit the Microsoft Update Catalog and search for the specific update you’re trying to install. Download and install it manually.
Check for Battery Status:
- Even though you can’t replace the battery right now, ensure it is at least partially charged or functioning. If the battery is completely dead, it might need some time connected to the power adapter to gain enough charge to proceed with updates.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, or if you need more assistance, consider contacting Microsoft Support for additional help. They might be able to provide more specific guidance based on your laptop’s situation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
