Hi @Manyo,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the CD/DVD drive in your HP Pavilion dv6-6000 series notebook might be missing the appropriate driver or facing a software issue. Let's go through the steps to troubleshoot this and help you reinstall the necessary driver:

Steps to Fix the CD/DVD Drive Not Recognized on Windows 7

1. Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + R, type devmgmt.msc, and press Enter to open Device Manager.
  • Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives section.
  • Check if your CD/DVD drive is listed. If there’s a yellow exclamation mark or it isn’t listed, it could indicate a driver issue.

2. Uninstall and Reinstall the CD/DVD Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click on the CD/DVD drive (if it's listed), and select Uninstall.
  • Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the default driver.

3. Manually Download the Driver Software and Drivers for HP Pavilion dv6-6000 Entertainment Notebook PC series

If Windows doesn’t reinstall the driver, you can manually install it:

  • Go to the HP support website and enter your notebook's model (HP Pavilion dv6-6000 Entertainment Notebook PC series).
  • Select Windows 7 as your operating system.
  • Under the Driver - Storage or Driver - CD/DVD sections, download any available drivers related to the CD/DVD drive.
  • Install the downloaded driver and restart your computer.

4. Check Windows Updates

  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Update.
  • Install any available updates, especially those related to drivers or hardware.

6. Test the Drive in Another Notebook

Since you mentioned you have an identical spare notebook where the CD drive works, you can swap the drives again to verify if the issue persists only on your main notebook.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
