i'm trying to download a working version of HP assistant - it says the normal download won't work because i need what is called a "legacy" version. How o I download this particular version?

You're very welcome.
There are a few versions out there, so we may have to experiment.
The first thing to do is to uninstall whatever version of the HPSA that is installed now and not working.
Then restart the PC.
Here is a link to a HPSA version 8 release. The one I gave you was an older version 7 release.

I recommend that you install the version that HP has on your notebook's support page.

Thank you for responding to my query. It seemed hopeful when I downloaded the suggested link unfortunately - when i installed it it said the version i had was newer and the installation would now close. Back to square one - where my HP assistant isn't working
