I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 or 4 times now, all with the same result.

What do you mean by "reset" the operating system?  I assume it is different from a total reinstallation of the OS?  That would be a HUGE pain in the ass!

Up until you suggested the initial uninstall/reinstall,  HP Support Assistant was working just fine (with the lone exception of that single Intel update not working.  So, with all due respect, you have managed to make this problem worse for me.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand nobody likes to reinstall the operating system. Could you please help me with the product number of your computer so that I can assist you better. You can press the Fn + esc to get the product number of your computer.

You can uninstall the latest HP Support Assistant and get the old one back by using HP Recovery manager.

Please revert with the product number of your laptop for further assistance.

The product numer is:  V2Z46AV

Again though, can you please explain the difference between a "reset" and a reinstallation of the OS?

Thanks for the reply,

Reset will clear the settings of the all the programs on the computer, leaving the data intact. How to perform reset? Refer http://hp.care/2fFlVu6

Rarely reset might fail, if it fails, you would need to reinstall the OS which would lead to loss of data. Hence I recommended you to backup your data before you reset the computer. Refer article http://hp.care/2fFlVu6 if you need assistance in backing up of data.

How to use HP Recovery manager, it helps you to install the original software or drivers that come with the computer along with other options to repair, reinstall OS and other tools. Refer http://hp.care/2fFrzwA

If you want to know how to perform recovery (reinstallation of OS), refer http://hp.care/2fFulSl

Difference between reset and recovery, refer http://hp.care/2fFuo0t

Hope this helped.

Still not sure I fully understand a reset.  Are you talking about doing a "system restore" from the "advanced recovery tools"?

That would be no problem to do.  If it is anything else though, that would impact all of the installed programs, that might present some difficulties.

Thanks for the reply.

Please refer to this article http://hp.care/2fFuo0t it explains the difference between Reset, System Restore and Recovery.

Hope this answered your question.

So you are recommending using the Push-Button Reset with the Keep My Files option?

Did the product # I supplied help your information in any way?

HP Recommended

Never mind on that last question.  I did a System Restore and now the Support Assistant appears to be working again.

However, we are now back to the Intel update failing again!

Thanks for the reply,

I am glad the system restore helped you. If the PC is responding fine, you can disable that i2c update from showing up, only when a newer update is available, it would pop up.

Hope this helped.

I was able to go to the www.hp.com/drivers sire and download the update directly.

When I tried to install it, it said that the update was there and did I want to reinstall it.  I said yes, after whuch it gave me the option to repair it.

I did the repair.  The update now does not show up on HP Support Assistant.
