Hi @Eldaneran,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your F12 key isn't working, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Check if F12 is Disabled in BIOS/UEFI

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, Esc, or Del during startup).
  • Look for an option related to function keys (it might be under the "Advanced" or "System Configuration" tab).
  • Ensure that the option to use function keys is enabled.
  • Save and exit the BIOS/UEFI.

Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager").
  • Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on your keyboard device, and select "Update driver."
  • Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers online.
  • If updating doesn’t work, you can try uninstalling the device (right-click and select "Uninstall device"), then restart your laptop to reinstall the keyboard drivers automatically.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • If you have an external keyboard, try connecting it to see if the F12 key works there.
  • If the external keyboard works, the issue might be with your laptop's internal keyboard.

Check for Software Conflicts

  • Some software applications might remap or disable function keys. Ensure no third-party software is interfering with the keyboard.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Disconnect any external devices and unplug the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and turn on your laptop.

Use the On-Screen Keyboard

  • If you need to use the F12 key urgently, you can use the On-Screen Keyboard as a temporary solution.
  • Search for "On-Screen Keyboard" in the Start menu and use it to simulate the F12 key press.

Check Keyboard Settings

  • Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard.
  • Ensure that "Use the On-Screen Keyboard" is turned off and that no other accessibility options are affecting the function keys.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
