Hi @Eldaneran,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your F12 key isn't working, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
Check if F12 is Disabled in BIOS/UEFI
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, Esc, or Del during startup).
- Look for an option related to function keys (it might be under the "Advanced" or "System Configuration" tab).
- Ensure that the option to use function keys is enabled.
- Save and exit the BIOS/UEFI.
Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers
- Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager").
- Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on your keyboard device, and select "Update driver."
- Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers online.
- If updating doesn’t work, you can try uninstalling the device (right-click and select "Uninstall device"), then restart your laptop to reinstall the keyboard drivers automatically.
Check for Hardware Issues
- If you have an external keyboard, try connecting it to see if the F12 key works there.
- If the external keyboard works, the issue might be with your laptop's internal keyboard.
Check for Software Conflicts
- Some software applications might remap or disable function keys. Ensure no third-party software is interfering with the keyboard.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off your laptop.
- Disconnect any external devices and unplug the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and turn on your laptop.
Use the On-Screen Keyboard
- If you need to use the F12 key urgently, you can use the On-Screen Keyboard as a temporary solution.
- Search for "On-Screen Keyboard" in the Start menu and use it to simulate the F12 key press.
Check Keyboard Settings
- Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard.
- Ensure that "Use the On-Screen Keyboard" is turned off and that no other accessibility options are affecting the function keys.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
