Hi @MANZOORSK,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop keyboard is not working as expected according to their image signs, there could be several potential reasons and corresponding solutions. Here are some steps you can follow to diagnose and possibly fix the issue.
Check Keyboard Layout Settings
Ensure that the keyboard layout settings on your operating system match the physical layout of your keyboard.
Windows:
- Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
- Under Preferred languages, select your language, and then click Options.
- Ensure the correct keyboard layout is selected under Keyboards.
Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources.
- Ensure the correct keyboard layout is selected.
Function (Fn) Key Issues
Some laptops have a function key (Fn) that needs to be used in combination with other keys to activate certain functions.
- Check if the Fn key is locked:
- On some HP laptops, you might need to press Fn + Esc to toggle the function lock.
Driver Issues
Outdated or corrupt keyboard drivers can cause the keyboard to malfunction.
- Update or reinstall keyboard drivers:
- Go to Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
- Expand the Keyboards section.
- Right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.
- If updating doesn’t work, you can also try uninstalling the driver and then restarting your laptop to let Windows reinstall the driver automatically.
Physical Issues
If specific keys are not working, there might be a physical issue with the keyboard.
- Clean the keyboard:
- Turn off your laptop and use compressed air to clean around the keys.
- Check for any visible damage or debris that might be causing the issue.
Software Conflicts
Some software applications might interfere with the normal functioning of the keyboard.
- Boot into Safe Mode:
- Restart your laptop and boot into Safe Mode.
- Check if the keyboard works correctly in Safe Mode. If it does, there might be a software conflict.
External Keyboard
If none of the above solutions work, you might want to try using an external keyboard.
- Connect an external USB keyboard:
- If the external keyboard works fine, it could indicate a hardware issue with your laptop’s built-in keyboard.
BIOS Settings
Check the BIOS settings to ensure the keyboard is recognized by the system.
- Access the BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (often Esc, F2, F10, or Del) to enter the BIOS setup.
- Check if the keyboard is recognized and if there are any settings related to keyboard operation.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and possibly fix the issue with your HP laptop keyboard.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
